Goodbye bulky robots!  Hello curvy hotties!  The new Fraulein Revoltech action figures lineup from Kaiyodo starts with a bang, with Rei Ayanami as the leadoff hitter.  When we first looked at the box, we couldn't help but notice how slim the box itself actually is (pic 2), especially compared to the normal Revoltech figure box (pic 3, pic 4).  When we first started reviewing Revoltech action figures, we noted that the boxes were big, and wasted a lot of space unnecessarily.  The manufacturer took notice, and did something about it.  We applaud Kaiyodo for improving on the packaging for the Fraulein Revoltech Series No. 001 Ayanami Rei Action Figure release, and we expect this slimmer box will be the standard size for future Fraulein Revoltech releases.

Standing approximately 6 inches tall, excluding stand, this action figure has Revoltech joints in the neck, torso, shoulders, hips, wrists, and ankles.  We find this setup interesting because the sculptor, Enoki Tomohide, decides to use regular joints for the elbows and knees.  But this new E.L.F. system (described with a picture on the box) allows for a slimmer build for the Fraulein Revoltech product line.  And it's easy to see how this E.L.F. system translates into a more feminine action figure (pic 6, pic 7, pic 8).

While Rei can stand on her own (pic 9, pic 10), Kaiyodo significantly improves the stand by customizing the face of the stand to the individual release (pic 11), and adding two Revoltech joints to allow adjustment of the stand (pic 12).  This improved stand makes it more feasible and appealing for collectors to actually use the stand for display on the shelf, rather than banish the stand to some dark corner in the closet.  Kaiyodo deserves tremendous credit for spending a little more money to enhance this accessory.  Speaking of accessory, the figure comes with two additional sets of hands, and the red spear.  Rei's best pose is with the spear, which is held tightly in her hands.

The paint job is fairly good.  Rei's skin color is appropriately pale, and we don't notice any error or missing detail in her Eva pilot uniform (pic 10).  Rei's facial expression is also appropriate (pic 13).  In our sample, we notice some minor mold lines in the legs, and paint in some areas are not completely filled in.  There is also a gap on the head, which the sculptor tries to hide among the hair (pic 14).  Absent these minor manufacturing flaws, we wouldn't hesitate to grade Craftsmanship an "A" for this release.

Even with these flaws, we are extremely happy with this release.  Its price point of $23.00 is in line with the normal Revoltech lineup, and in some ways improved on the previous product line.  We recommend this product wholeheartedly as a "MUST BUY" for Rei fans and anime action figure collectors.

Fraulein Revoltech Series No. 001 Ayanami Rei Action Figure from Kaiyodo is a giant touchdown!  Anime action figure collectors better clear their shelves for Fraulein Revoltech action figures!
