Valentine's Day is almost here, and love is in the air!  Fans of the goddess Belldandy will fall in love with Kotobukiya's release of Oh! My Goddess: Goddess Costume Vers. Belldandy 1/8 scale PVC figure!  Originally released in 2001 as a resin kit, Kotobukiya re-releases this product as a completed, hassle free, gorgeous pvc figure.

The one aspect that stands out the most when we look at this 7 inches tall figure is Belldandy's pose.  She's depicted flying gracefully in the air (pic 2).  Belldandy is free as a bird.  The blue cape and tassel in the back match the air current she's riding on (pic 3).  The hands sticking out , and her body posture leaning forward (pic 4) as Belldandy looks solely forward are equally nice.  It's not easy to appreciate all the minute details embedded into this figure without having Belldandy sitting in front of your eyes.  But trust us on this: the sculpt for this Belldandy is absolutely phenomenal!

Unfortunately, the Craftsmanship is not perfect.  There are some mold lines running along the edges in the cape (pic 5).  There is also a mold line in the hair.  The white color isn't filled in completely in the tassle.  The yellow color isn't filled in completely in the front.

On the Representation front, the color scheme is accurate for the costume.  The sculptor resists the temptation to give Belldandy some "growth" (pic 6), and thereby avoids committing sacrilege in the eyes of Belldandy fans.  The hair color is acceptable as well.  However, we would have preferred some highlighting with white in the color to give it a more dynamic look.  Heck, illustrations of Belldandy always include hightlighting in the hair.

The figure is very stable due to the fact that Belldandy is literally screwed onto the stand (pic 7).  Furthermore the back cape that connects the stand to the rest of the figure is thick and solid (pic 8); there's no chance the figure will snap and fall, or lean over time.

One last point to mention is the price.  This pvc figure was originally released in Japan last year at 5,800 yen, or approximately $55.00.  In North America, we're paying just $29.99 for this beauty.  Nowadays, 1/8 scale figures go for more than 30 bucks in North America.  The only exception is Kaiyodo's Bome product line.  Kotobukiya deserves a big round of applause for charging just 30 bucks, and thus making it affordable for Belldandy fans to purchase this product.

Given the high quality, attractive pose, and ultra low MSRP, Oh! My Goddess: Goddess Costume Vers. Belldandy 1/8 scale PVC Figure is simply a MUST BUY for anime figure collectors and Belldandy fans.  We won't be surprised if this release turns out be the best bargain for anime figures in 2008.
